April is about taking advantage of post-holiday sales as well as gathering the necessary supplies for the yearly tradition of spring cleaning.
So here is what to buy in April and what to avoid!
Buy: Vacuums
If your vacuum is old and could use an upgrade, now is the time to do a little research and make a purchase. You want to ensure you have the best possible supplies and equipment ready for refreshing your home this spring.

Buy: Jewelry
It’s critical with big expensive jewelry purchases to pick the best time of year and wait for the sales. One good tip is to purchase jewelry on months when there isn’t a big jewelry-giving holiday (for example, Valentine’s Day in February and Mother’s Day in May).
Stores are more motivated to make sales during these months. And with these holidays plus birthdays and anniversaries already set, it makes it easy to plan ahead of time to get the best deals. And don’t forget to try and negotiate on the sticker prices!
Buy: Easter leftovers
It might seem obvious but the few days after a holiday are the best time to stock up on decorations and other non-perishable supplies that you can use in future years. With close-out sales and store anxious to get rid of leftover items, you can save as much as 50-75 percent.
For Easter, grab baskets, colorful decorations, and chocolate and other candy to share (or not!) with family and friends.
Things to wait on
Although April is often the month to think about fresh starts, some purchases are better left for later in the calendar year. Here’s what not to buy in April:
-Wait on purchasing mattresses and other large furniture pieces until Memorial Day sales next month, with deals starting the week before and running through the long weekend.
-If you need to upgrade your supply of linens and bedding, but missed the white sales that often begin the year, wait until the sales around Memorial and Labor Day as well.
