What to Consider When Shopping for a Shed

Beginning the process of shopping for a portable building can be tricky and seem a little bit overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be! With the right preparations and helpful dealers like we have on all our Cook lots across the county, you will be in good hands.

But to help you get started, here are 4 things to consider when choosing what style, size and color building fits your family’s storage needs.

Price vs. quality

It’s important to weigh the price of buildings versus the quality of materials and ongoing customer support services. Sometimes the least expensive buildings are not always the best decision because they are made of lower quality materials.

Cook buildings are constructed of solid materials made to last the test of time. From our smart roof design, to our durable floor systems, to our sidewall construction and finally our door features, every component of a Cook shed is high quality. For more on our building features, click here!

Remember, price is more than just the number on the sticker too. It’s the other purchasing programs that the company has. For example, Cook offers pre-owned buildings that include the same features and warranties for a lower cost. We also have a Lowest Price Guarantee that states, if any customer finds the same size building with all the same features, we will refund 50 percent of the price, up to 6 months after the purchase.

Choosing the right size

One of the most difficult tasks for buyers is to decide which size building is right for them. Our Cook dealers advise customers to think about the storage needs they might have in the near future rather than just what they need to store now.

It’s always a good idea to go one size up from what you think you need. We all have more clutter than we think we do! Cook also offers our Trade-up program, which allows customers to trade in their smaller building for a larger model and pay the difference.

How it fits into your home/yard

Consider how the storage shed will look in different areas in your backyard. Does it match your home’s exterior design and the overall appearance of the property? You want a storage space that matches your needs and isn’t an eye sore in your yard. Check out all of Cook’s versatile building styles and how to customize your own building here!

So pick a design that fits what you are planning to store and the overall design of your home. Also, consider how to integrate the new building into your landscape. An easy way to do this is to surround it with annual or perennial flowerbeds or install trellises so vines and plants that climb vertically.

And don’t forget the building accessories, like shutters, extra windows or doors and a flower box. At Cook, all of these additions are available with our buildings because we understand that attention to detail is important to our customers!
