Marriage can be an exciting adventure. It represents the start of a new life together. Oh, and don’t forget all of the extra stuff! There will be twice the clothes, twice the DVDs, and twice the furniture. The list goes on and on.

What about those new wedding gifts? You really didn’t need 3 kitchen mixers, but it looks like you got them anyway. Where are you going to put all of these things? It’s hard enough combining the stuff you already had.

Here are the first few steps you should take:

  • Return Gifts

Gift registries these days are supposed to prevent newlyweds from receiving multiples of items on their list.  Unfortunately, not everyone pays attention to the list, and sometimes errors can occur within the registry.  As a result, you end up having more sets of non-matching cookware than you possibly need. If it hasn’t already crossed your mind already, your best bet may be to try returning unopened gifts to the store.  That’s fast cash right back in your pocket!

  • Sell Extra Items

If stores won’t take back these gifts, consider selling them online or at a yard sale. Ebay.com, Amazon.com, and Craigslist.org are just a few examples of great e-commerce sites.  This can also be a good alternative for those items you’ve had for a while and no longer use.

  • Donate Your Stuff

If you’re feeling generous, think about donating excess stuff to charities and local non-profit organizations.  If something is still in working condition, don’t just throw it away! Someone out there could probably still use it.

  • Give to Friends in Need

Share the wealth! Ask friends and family members if they want to call dibs on things that are up for grabs.

  • Invest in Extra Storage

Newlywed couples often have to make tough compromises. What’s going to stay and what gets tossed?  It’s his recliner or her loveseat, her home office or his home gym. It doesn’t have to be that way. With the help of a portable shed, this situation can easily become a win-win for both sides.

These sheds not only serve as extra storage space, but they also double as additional rooms. From craft centers to man caves, there are so many things you can do with a backyard shed!  Click here for more ideas!
