Summer is here and with it kids are coming home from college and you're leaving for long awaited vacations.

So, to fully enjoy these sunny days, it’s a good idea to get your storage shed, garage or attic prepared to save yourself valuable time and energy later.

Don't procrastinate any more on organizing your shed! Here is a helpful guide for what should go in and what should come out of storage to to help your family enjoy the warmer weather!Warmer_Weather_Shed_Organization_Tips_Cook_Portable_Warehouses

IN:
Holiday decorations

If you still have decorations from last winter cluttering up your closets, move them into your Cook shed. You won’t need them until next holiday season for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukah, etc. Remember to label boxes or bins so things are easy to find next winter.

This is also a good time to get out any summer holiday decoration or party supplies for entertaining.

OUT: Lawn and landscaping equipment

Spring and summer also means a ton more yard work and gardening tasks. Keep it simple for yourself by getting those items like lawnmower, shovels, rakes, weedwacker, etc. out now or keeping them closer to the front of your shed so they are more accessible.

Remember some of the items you will use throughout the summer, like weed killers, gasoline, propane and pool chemicals should be stored inside and shouldn’t be exposed to high temperatures.

IN: Winter clothing and outerwear

Spring and summer are the times for bathing suits, shorts and sandals, so all those heavy coats, hats, sweaters, scarves and gloves, are done for a while. Changing your closet out seasonally will make it much easier to find what you need.

Use large plastic storage bins or clothing racks to keep clothing looking nice and as unwrinkled as possible. Avoid storing in plastic grocery bags, which can attract bugs.

OUT: Camping gear/outdoor sporting equipment

With the nicer weather, it’s time to get outside and enjoy the outdoors. Get all the supplies your family needs ready to go: camping gear, tents, sleeping bags and sports equipment, balls, bats, goals. Then, you can enjoy the outdoors at the drop of a hat. For tips on organizing your shed items read more here.

IN: Stuff from kid’s school or dorms

Now is the time when kids in college are moving home for the summer. That means they will be bringing a lot of stuff to clutter up your home. Encourage them to only bring home essentials and store any large items like furniture or equipment in your Cook shed. You might even consider transforming your Cook Portable Warehouse into a guest house to give them a little independence (and so you can keep your new office or gym inside).

OUT:
Clutter

Of course we all know about that dreaded yearly occurrence known as spring cleaning. We have talked about it a lot on our blog! For more spring cleaning and organizing tips, click here!

Just like you spring clean inside your home, you should do the same in your Cook building. Think about the last time you used your stored items and get rid of any broken or unusable items. If you didn’t use it last season, you most likely won’t use it this season.
