Earlier this month, members of the management team of Cook Portable Warehouses traveled to Memphis, Tennessee to present a donation of $60,000 to  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.

Staff members, including president and owner Greg Cook, co-owner and secretary/treasurer of Cook Sales Inc. Tedra Miller and Director of Marketing Jonathan Bevis, attended the check presentation ceremony and took a tour of the hospital.

Cook Portable Warehouses president Greg Cook said: “I had the distinct honor of traveling to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to deliver a donation on behalf of our Cook Cares program and tour the hospital. What an incredible experience!”

The donation was on behalf of the Cook Cares program, a community outreach arm of Cook Portable Warehouses. Cook Cares provides monetary gifts to a variety of organizations across the region and across the county.

At Cook, our employees and management team feel lucky and grateful for all the blessings we have and want to give back to the community in any way we can. We strive to be more than a company that is focused on business matters. We really care about the community.

“Almost everyone has heard of St. Jude and probably has financially supported it at some level,” Cook said. “But until you have walked its hallways, it is difficult to fully comprehend the impact your support can have on the families of children that have been stricken with life-threatening diseases.”

The average individual donation is about $34 and St. Jude has more than 9 million donors who help raise more than 75 percent of the funding necessary to operate the hospital. It costs about $2 million a day ot operate St. Jude and thanks to their donations, no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for care, travel, housing or food.

The dream of a place like St. Jude began when then struggling entertainer Danny Thomas prayed to St. Jude Thaddeus, the patron saint of hopeless causes, to “help me find my way in life and I will build you a shrine.” Once he began to have success in his career, he remembered his promise.

He considered what form that honor would take and eventually decided on a research and care facility for children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases. In 1957 Danny Thomas opened ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude.

St. Jude became a reality in 1962. Since its beginnings, St. Jude has helped make numerous advancements in the care and possible treatment of pediatric leukemia and other forms of cancer. Cook is proud to play a small part of the great work being done every day at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

“I have always felt it is important to give back or pay it forward, and never have I been more proud of our company than I was on this day,” Cook said.
