Gardening and spending time outdoors are some of the best parts of the warmer months. Sitting outside and relaxing can be the perfect end to a long work day or week.

Outdoor trends are always changing according to the season and the year. So here are 8 of our favorite trends for this summer to help your yard look even better! And don’t forget about adding a Cook building for all the extra storage you need.

Go green

Going green in your garden includes using organic plants and recycled materials such as permeable pavers and crushed rock for better drainage, planting things that encourage insects and wildlife and using a reduced area of your lawn.

Get comfy furniture

Choosing the right outdoor furniture is important because people spend more and more time outside especially in the spring and summer months. It’s a great place to dine, entertain or just relax so pick weatherproof cushioned couches, sectionals or chairs.

Utilize water and fire features

The sound of water has a calming effect and can help drown out noise from traffic and other disturbances. Keep it simple with water pots and rock gardens rather than larger water features, which take up space and are difficult to keep up with.

On the alternative side, adding a fire pit or outdoor cooking vessel like a brick oven is a great way to make the space more inviting for entertaining purposes.

Stock up on containers

Pots, flower boxes and troughs filled with annuals, perennials, shrubs, etc. are a smart way to keep you garden blooming with minimal maintenance. The best choices are wood, clay, concrete or steel. Choose bright colors to add some pizzazz to a small, narrow space like a driveway or patio.

Make use of crushed rock

Crushed rock is a great and inexpensive way to add value to your yard with a path, patio or as a border around your garden. It adds a casual and refined look to any yard.

Think about urban farming

Urban farming is about designing gardens that are beautiful and productive. This can be tailored to anything you want to grow but some examples include organic vegetable beds, a beehive for fresh honey or a chicken coup for fresh eggs. In fact, you can easily turn your Cook shed into a chicken coup, read this post for more!

Use space differently

You don’t need a ton of outdoor room to make the best use of it. Use the space you do have in a more creative way. For example, turn your driveway into a small patio or utilize your front yard so that you can connect better with your neighbors.

Add a shed

A Cook Portable Warehouse is a smart way to add value to your property, dress up your outdoor space and provide more storage for any tools, equipment or supplies. Your Cook shed can become anything from a garden or potting shed, to an art studio, bar or supplemental outdoor entertaining space.

Or think about turning your Cook building into a garden room as a place to relax and enjoy the nature that surrounds you. Fill with seating, lighting and some good books to read and you will start spending all of your free time in this inventive space!
